5 Easy Birthday Cake Ideas

Are you looking for ideas for an extra special birthday cake this year? Great! Because we’ve got five great ideas for easy birthday cakes for you!

  • Doll cake. One fantastic way to make a fun birthday cake for a girl who loves dolls or Barbies, is to create a doll cake. One of the best ways to do this is to bake a thick round cake, or even a bundt cake. Then wrap the legs of your child’s favorite Barbie in cellophane, and place it in the center of the cake. You may need to cut out a hole to insert it in. Make the cake seem like the skirt of the doll by icing it in a matching color to the top the doll will be wearing. You may need to shape the skirt some by shaving off some of the cake. You can add sprinkles, and other things make it sparkly and more girly.

  • Present cake. A super fun cake that really fits the birthday theme is a cake shaped like a present. For this you will need a rectangular shaped cake. You would ice the entire cake. Then use fondant (which you can buy at a craft store and roll out and cut into the shapes you want) to create a “ribbon” and “bow” out of icing as if it were an actual wrapped gift. You can use icing, candies, or fondant to create shapes on the cake to make it look as if the wrapping paper were patterned.

  • Sports ball cake. For the sports themed celebration, nothing goes over quite so well as a sports ball shaped cake, and lucky for you these are some of the easiest cakes to make. Bake up a round cake, ice it in the color of the ball you wish to represent, and use a piping bag to give distinction. For example, if you are making a tennis ball cake ice the cake with yellow frosting and then use white icing to pipe the detail of the tennis ball.

  • Castle cake. To make a beautiful castle cake, you will need to bake a couple of round cakes. Make a larger on and a smaller one. Ice the cakes in white icing placing the smaller cake on top of the larger one. Take some ice cream cake cones and fill them with icing to weigh them down. Turn sugar cones upside down and place them on top of the cake cones. Now, arrange the spires you have created on top of the cakes. Then use candies such as Smarties, Necco wafers, and Dots to make the cake look more exciting.

  • Animal lovers cake. This is a fun, yet simple cake to make. First, determine what animal your child loves best. Then, find crackers or cookies already shaped in these animal shapes. The first thing you want to do is bake a cake. This cake can be any shape you like. You can then ice it. To make the cake look like grass, ice it with green frosting. If you ice the cake a little messily it will look more like grass. Use pretzel sticks to create a fence around the edge of the cake and place the animal shaped crackers inside the “fence” area.
