Beeswax Candles Made Simple for You and the Kids

Making Beeswax Candle Tips – Candles with the Kids

The warm illuminating glow it emits. That deliciously fragrant smell as your candle fades. Sigh! The art of beeswax candlemaking is undeniably interesting and fun!

Creating candles from beeswax is a practical but exciting project for the younger ones to learn. Since there is no melting of wax, the kids do not need to be near a hot stove.   There is no mess and the amount of items needed for making beeswax candles is just about nil.

Making Beeswax Candles Tips - Items that You Do Need

  • 8 inch by 16 inch sheets of beeswax
  • Primed wick sliced for a one inch candle
  • A small paring knife from your kitchen
  • Flat open surface

How to Create Beeswax Candles

  1. Lay out your sheet of beeswax
  2. Slice wick approximately 3/4 inches longer than wax sheet (allowing excess on both sides of candle)

Leaving available wick at each ends allows you the choice to decide which side of the candle you prefer as the top and which side the bottom.

Lay the wick on the sheet’s tip first, fold it over using approximately 1/8-inch of beeswax then begin rolling. This seam will enclose the wick securely.Always use your fingertips as you roll the beeswax round the wick and don’t forget to push it from side to side. This is probably the most difficult step thorughout the process of making candles.

Another thing you can do is use either a cutting board or counter corner as you create a seam (1/8 inches) by flipping the wax overthen folding it down. Either or – just make sure you obtain a perfect seam in the process.

In candle making, you need to determine how thick you’d wish your candle to be. You’ll have to add more beeswax if you want a thicker candle. This is done by aligning the new wax sheet edge to edge with the original & using your thumb to meld the pieces together. Be careful to roll the beeswax in a straight line finishing only when the last part of the beeswax is wrapped securely around itself.

With your thumbs, press the corners of the beeswax down softly upon reaching the end.  Continue going along the whole length of the candle creating an invisible seam.

Choosing what you consider the best end of the candle for the top, trim the wick 1/2 above the wax. Do not forget to start from the bottom as you remove the rest of the wick.

Your children might be too young to recognize the little pleasures in this craft project but you no doubt do. Now, get on and set your candle alight to celebrate your wonderful project and let the intoxicating scent of success wash over you! But for kids? Gee – they made their own candle!

And while you are learning to make wax candles keep in mind that the makings of candles have been here for centuries. Originally, the goal was to have a source of light…something you can’t forget during such moments. But at present, a lot of people simply take up candlemaking for recreational purposes. Or it can be for a variety of reasons. If you recall, we’ve said before how some consider candlemaking a leisurely activity. There are also occasions when they can serve as the ideal gifts. One of the most popular craft projects that parents teach to their kids is wax candle making. Last but not the least is the profit you’ll get. Some people create candles to sell for their own individual business venture.
