Buzz Lightyear Toys – Review

As a collector of toys I move through a lot of phases. I’m not like several collectors who just lock themselves into one thing. To me, the hobby as a complete can be a slippery slope. I started buying a couple figures and before long I ended up with a lot junk I don’t even identify why I invested in half it. With these bizarre whims, arrives new items, that  brings us to today’s review: Buzz Lightyear.

I awfully like Toy Story. It’s my favorite Pixar film, just barely beating out Finding Nemo. Although I love the film, I’ve still never gotten around to seeing the sequel. So I presume that about sums up my Toy Story fandom. Up thus far I’ve never ordered anything associated with Toy Story, but when I flip with the TV channels and the original Toy Story is on, chances are I’ll finish watching it.

I made a decision I planned to buy a Buzz Lightyear rather randomly, however it came across me that Buzz Lightyear is cool. In the film he’s sort of the ideal toy, Space Ranger, rocket pack, laser blasts… Who wouldn’t want that toy? The character himself was great as Tim Allen voiced him as being a fairly pompus goofball who eventually learns the dark secrets of his own mortality and finds friendship over the way.

Buzz Lightyear is often a Space Ranger who goes on intergalactic adventures with the cosmos. The first film didn’t explain too much but gave us an adequate amount of an premise. Buzz Lightyear is fundamentally Flash Gordon meets Iron Man. This guy is usually a badass, no two ways about it.

The second film led towards the creating on the TV Show, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, which was a fictional TV show inside the film that were to become a REAL show afterwards. Very like  Buzz, who was a fictional movie toy that became a genuine toy. Buzz has even REALLY been in space, as NASA took a Lightyear together with them on a mission some time back.

Packaging:

Since I decided accurately this week that I wanted a Buzz, I figured I would head out and obtain one of Hasbro’s Toys Story & Beyond Star Squad Buzz Lightyears… However because it seems Hasbro has just lost the license to Toy Story also it’s now Mattel’s turn to make Toy Story toys. Finding a Hasbro Star Squad Buzz turned out to become pretty hard, so I asked around on Fwoosh to see if I could learn what is the best “Buzz”…

A lot of people bound for me to the original 12 inch Buzz Lightyear which was produced by Thinkway Toys and have been in constant re-release since the initial film. Subsequent versions have been made as well by both Hasbro and Mattel which are much like that imaginative release.

I opted to move to the area Disney Store to see what that they had to offer because I didn’t automatically want the 12 Inch Buzz Lightyear. I wanted great smaller and I found this figure simply called “Ultimate Buzz Lightyear” on the Disney Store.

The package can be quite strange as this figure has no markings to spot who made him. If I had to take a guess I’d say Thinkway, but I can not confirm. Everyone makes or has made a Buzz Lightyear it seems. Even Lanard made some Buzz toys. The package is an average bubble card and it’s okay but all of them were being sweet banged up while in the store.

Inside he has tons of twist ties holding him in. They’re both sturdy, tied tight and aggravating. This is a kind of instances where it seems like overkill. That said, these packages were beat to hell and Buzz is in mint condition entirely thanks to the twist ties. So I guess I’m thankful for them.

Articulation:

Taking a look at Buzz in the package I wasn’t sure what kind of articulation he was going to have. I knew he’d have some movement, but what exactly I wasn’t yes. The back on the package advertises him like a multi-poseable figure and I could tell he had some hinges and cuts so I went with it.

He features a surprisingly great deal of articulation. Buzz’s helmet opens and closes (But has nothing to keep it closed so you will have to either handle it flopping unlock or tape it shut) and his head is a basic cut. He then has ball jointed shoulders which has a hub in the center, a ball joint and turning point on the elbow that allows swiveling, cut waist, some type of ball joint at the leg that works more sort of a t-crotch than a ball joint, hinged ball joint knees when using the intention of let swivel.

At roughly 5 inches roughly this guy has plenty of articulation. I don’t want to say he’s essentially the most articulated Buzz Lightyear at this scale, because I have never gotten my hands on a few of the others… But he’s have to be compelled to be up there. Another point is that he has no “action” mechanisms. Meaning this is a wholly poseable figure, no karate chopping action.

Sculpt:

When I sought out Buzz, I used to be prepared to buy one that just type of seemed like him. However this Buzz Lightyear is IDENTICAL to his Toy Story movie counterpart. Head to toe he’s 100% accurate. He has all of the buttons on his chest and also has his laser light arm. None of the switches do anything, but they’re sculpted in. You simply can’t push them.

Grim attention to feature was paid. He eveb has the piece on his arm to flip open his wrist communicator, but it surely does not flip open. You’ll be able to just see the small lip which is speculated to be where it could open. It’s minor stuff, but man it really displays that whomever made this toy deserves plenty of credit. Although they in fact don’t want it, because much like the package, no identifying marks are on this toy.

Paint clever he appears to be 100% screen accurate also, although I didn’t go over him creating a fine tooth comb. He has all the initial logos, together with the Space Ranger emblem on his arm and chest. The paint work is absolutely clean on mine. Nearly as good if not better than another mass market toyline around and quite enhanced than some.

“Greetings my pointy headed friend!”

He has neither fists or absolutely open hands. This was a pleasant surprise to me. Most Buzz figures have karate chop hands, which look nice but I need my Buzz able to throw a punch. This Buzz can punch, chop and grab. His hand might be closed a wee bit more and he’d be just right for the reason that respect, but as is he’s quite good.

Accessories:

Buzz is included with quite a lot of accessories that help make this guy ace. Initial he has clip on wings. During my search for a Buzz I read lots of online reviews of other Buzz figures that mentioned the wings specifically as being a weak spot. They popped off too easy, didn’t work. Many Buzz figures don’t even come with wings! This guy’s snap on wings fit nicely into the backpack and look very screen accurate and work sort of a charm. Want him with wings? Pop them in. Don’t need wings? Pop em out. It might not be as fancy as the best Buzz, but it certainly works well.

He also includes a bonus alien figure. I’m not sure if these guys ever got a name besides “Little Green Men” or “martians” but one included with him looks nice. I’d say he’s some off model, but not much. He looks virtually any of the other variants I’ve viewed passed in the region of and most toy lines force you to definitely buy this tiny guy separate. He has no points of expression, but is painted nice.

He too comes with a Space Ranger officer utility belt with grapping hook. I don’t think Buzz had this in the primary movie, so I can’t prove if it’s on model or not but it looks good compared to among the other Buzzes I’ve seen with this just painted on. The belt is crafted from rubber like the old Ninja Turtle belts and fastens in regards to the same way.

I couldn’t get the belt to fasten huge, but he looks pretty cool with it on. The belt carries a few paint aps as does the “grappling hook” which I assume is fancy Space Ranger-talk for boomerang. In case you throw a boomerang in space wouldn’t it come back to you? I bet this one does… If not they have a rope tied to it!

Additional Notes:

I used to be surprised what I liked Buzz. I didn’t collect toys when the Toy Story craze came around. While among my cousins who We have a massive age gap with (He’s more like a nephew) was big into Buzz and had several of the toys, I never concerned. I’ve performed with an abundance of Buzz figures with the kids, but this one is admittedly tremendous.

He’s made of hard plastic and rubber, so I believe kids would likely tear this guy up. However for slightly older kids, 6-10 Experts say he’d be great. For collectors he’s top notch! Granted he could employ a few more swivels here and there, however the verbalization is type of well along with the bonus weapons and alien just make him all the more worth it.

Value:

I paid $10 for this guy. I believe that’s a fantastic value. It’s concerning the same price being a DC Universe Classics figure and includes regarding the same quantity of stuff. It’s much licensed toy too. He has both form and performance, can’t ask for considerably more than that. Obviously the talking larger 12 inch figure is only $20, so your mileage may vary.

However if you are looking for any smaller Buzz Lightyear or one to slot in together with your other toy lines, I can’t recommend this guy enough. Honestly I used to be surprised how much I liked him. I think he’s a Disney Store exclusive.

I’m tempted to call this guy an 8 from 10. Maybe even a 9 out of 10. There immediately isn’t much to fault with this tiny Buzz. I’m not planning to give him higher score because I think a couple extra points of articulation and one way to keep his helmet closed easier would contain made him the best figure. He doesn’t need them, but there’s room for perfect
