College Coeds Should Carry A Taser To Stop Attack

I willingly shed my all girls school biases so I could attend university with an open mind. It gave me a bit of a culture shock in my first year. Boys did not always respect girls and peer pressure sanctioned this behavior.

The prospect of school perils including date rape or a fraternity initiation came with every time kids gathered for fun after dark. At the risk of being perceived as goody-goody, it motivated me to carry a Taser to prevent rape.

My older brother got a Taser C2 after high school. He would be home some weekends and explain to me how this self defense weapon fired a pair of darts attached to wire from a secure distance of up to 15 feet.

He said not to worry about handling a C2 after consuming alcohol, or heaven forbid, a date rape drug. I could aim it anywhere on the body of an assaulter. He said to wait until I was 18 to legally carry a Taser to prevent rape.

I did not expect his lecture would soon give me a reality check. Not only was he right about the Taser C2, he was dead on about what happens in college.

I went to see a gig of some bands with some schoolmates including someone from the dorm next door. I do not suppose he knew I would carry a Taser to prevent rape because he was all over me that night.

We were in the thick of the crowd, kids who were intoxicated and blissed out, when he made a quite forceful sexual proposition. I turned it down and he got mad. I had to deal with him all by myself.

I did not have to shoot my C2. He backed off when he saw that I had the presence of mind to carry a Taser to prevent rape. I learned that night to stop being obliging even if it meant I stopped being popular.
