Do People Take College Bands Seriously?

There seem to be a lot of people out there nowadays forming so called bands when they are in their mid to late teens and there are also many people out there that think they are stupid and a waste of time. I for one am not in a band and cannot play an instrument to save a life unless of course you are looking for London’s Burning on the recorder in which case I am your man. I do however disagree with the people that think college bands are a waste of time, after all there has been great talent coming from bands like this including the magnificent Paramore.

Is there a way you can actually get people together and encourage them to play?? Well if you are the headmaster of a school or a dean of a college or university the best thing to do is actually put together a battle for the bands night. This is great for bands because it allows many different types to get together and play, perhaps for the first time, in front of an audience. More often than not you will be able to see if the bands are serious or not as the ones do not take things seriously will not turn up to play live.

The next step in noting if the band you are in has what it takes to actually get somewhere is your ability to play a live set. No one wants to listen to someone that is rubbish on one of those guitars and I have been to my fair share of shows from bands that sound great on disc and just fail to do anything live.

So get practicing as many bands have been noticed for playing in things such as battle of the bands gigs on their bass guitarsand electric guitars.

So the next time you see a college band playing live why don’t you actually start taking them seriously?
