Ever wondered how to coach soccer or more specifically youth soccer? The phrase looks quite simple and familiar but if you give it a serious thought, a lot of things will start coming to your head.

Communication is one of these soccer skills, necessary for both players and coaches to master. A coach needs good communication skill for giving instructions, sharing feedback, evaluating players, counseling them, and maintaining discipline.

Players discuss issues with their coaches, peers, parents; share their feelings (good or bad) with teammates, and give tips and tricks to those new in the team. It is the comprehensive language of soccer by which players and coaches transmit their thoughts and feelings.

Soccer coaching has some basic philosophies that the coaches must learn and consequently teach their players.

1.Always call your players using their names. This is not only sound good but is also courteous.

2. Before instructing the players, understand what you want them to do and expected results.

4.Watch your body language. It should be relaxed and open to convey positive feelings and get better results.

5.When addressing the team, maintain eye contact with each player one by one. Face the person you are talking to and look him in the eye.

6.Your style of speaking should influence the person you are talking to. So select a style that best describes you and also suits the other person.

7. Select a subject that requires redressal. Communication leads to answers to questions, how to coach soccer works best when it is brief and direct. Pick a list of items and remain committed to it.

8.Be objective: Keep in mind that you are a soccer coach who is speaking to a team or a player. So be firm with your sentiments and communicate only about the points of the game.

9.Speak clearly: The other person should be able to interpret your message in exactly the same way you intended it to be.

10.When teaching soccer, repeat the important points. The players should always keep in mind the important points and this is possible only when you keep repeating them in different situations.

11.Add humor to your style and words with a view to lighten up things whenever possible.

12.Always give your players enough room and confidence so that they can get their queries answered from you. Give them freedom to ask questions.

A soccer coach who does not exhibit good communication skills required to distribute the information correctly will not be a good coach in the long run.
