How To Make Your Children Enjoy Their Summer Break
If you have children, you may be wondering how you will entertain them for the entire summer now that it is the end of June and they are officially on summer vacation. Your kids, however, couldn’t be happier!
Your kids have gotten accustomed to being in school all day, and now they are looking forward to doing what they please all summer, right? Are you trying too hard to come up with activities just to keep them busy?
It is true that children should have some educational summertime activities, but it is equally important for them to have some free play time. They should get to have fun. While planning all of those activities and outings, don’t forget to work in some time for them to just play on their own.
Free play time will need to be age appropriate. You’ll also want to consider the level of independence of your children. Your older kids will appreciate having some unsupervised time in their room or in the yard, while your younger kids will most likely need to be more closely supervised.
Remember that this is still your kids’ vacation. Let them have some say in how their days are spent. You will learn over time that having a few options ready will make you more comfortable in letting your kids decide what to do on any given day.
Letting your kids participate in the planning of their vacation days will go a long way in obtaining their buy-in.
On days in which you can’t really let your children choose the activity due to scheduling or other circumstances, just tell them so. Getting some options on some days is great, but is not always possible. Be clear with your kids each day, and when there isn’t any wiggle room, just tell them what the day’s plan is.
Your kids will really appreciate the balance of planned activities and free time, and you will too!
