Make Scrapbooks for Free by Using Images from the Internet
Now that so many good scrapbook supply designers are Web savvy, there’s an abundance of free vintage scrapbook papers. That means all you need to know is how to do a Web search and download files and you can find all the materials you need to create delightful scrapbooks. That’s why popular artist Mary Englebreit recently remarked that the Internet is a great source of digital scrapbooking materials that will yield almost anything you might need. And she’s an authority on good images; products featuring her graphics sell like hotcakes!
Here are some of the types of free scrapbooking materials that are available:
Babies and Kids
Like weddings, little ones invite photography. And, of course, people who scrapbook love to use those photos to create family keepsakes. Fortunately, you can find a huge selection of scrapbooking materials for babies. If you’re not up on baby images, however, you might find the color schemes a little surprising these days. Burnt orange, chocolate brown and red are all the rage, as well as a few specific shades of green. Blue and pink are still popular, of course, but these days there are many bold color choices too. And for older children, there is quite a lot of free clip art that portrays a range of special interests, such as ballet images, football clip art and baseball clip art.
Antique
There seems to be an rise in the number of people looking for vintage scrapbook supplies. That could be because vintage art is so timeless and creates such classy results. Greeting cards from times long gone make terrific vintage scrapbook embellishments, as do clipart images from years gone by. And if you’re lucky enough to find vintage designs on digital scrapbook papers, you’ll have the best of both worlds. Vintage art also covers a range of subjects, which means you can find images as diverse as vintage flowers, magician posters, Victorian fashion illustrations, sailing ships and free vintage travel posters. So whatever subject you’re trying to cover in your scrapbook, there’s probably vintage art to match.
Holidays
The holidays are great subjects for scrapbooks, since those are the times we gather with friends and family to create special memories. And it’s not just the “showier” holidays, such as Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day and Halloween that inspire scrapbooks; it’s the minor holidays too. You can find lots of patriotic scrapbooking papers and embellishments online for holidays such as Veterans Day, Fourth of July, Memorial Day and Flag Day. There are also images suitable for Earth Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day and just about any other holiday you can think of; even the silly or off-beat ones.
Butterflies and Flowers
I’ve definitely noticed that people who scrapbook love flowers, and who can blame them? They work for nearly any occasion. Butterflies, too, have a large audience, because they bring to mind so many things we love: freedom, summertime and other happy things. Butterfly and flower images are also diverse, because you can find them in both illustration and photographic form, and in modern and vintage forms. There are even butterfly scrapbooking papers that have coordinating modern and vintage designs available in the same collections.
Wedding Images
Scrapbooks and weddings are a natural combination, because wedding photo albums have always been traditional anyway. But a wedding scrapbook can preserve your memories in an even more creative way. There are many good free wedding scrapbook images on the Web that will allow you to create one of these very special mementos with no or little cost. And if for some reason you don’t find any specifically for weddings that appeal to you, flower scrapbook images will often do just as well.
So the next time you need scrapbook designs, check the Web. You might find some amazing free things.
