Teens And A Bad Job Market
Summer is here and teens all over America are scrambling for jobs. It is very clear that this year of 2010 is no better for job hunters than last year as the economy has not improved. That means lots of teens face the possibility of not being able to get jobs again this summer.
In the current job market, it is common for teenagers to face a lot of rejection. If you are a teen that has been turned down for multiple jobs, you need to make sure you are not making any critical mistakes that might be contributing to your failure.
When you fill out an application for a job, you are usually asked for an email address and a phone number where you can be contacted. A mistake that some teenagers may be making is to not make sure they are using voice messages and emails addresses that sound professional.
Prospective employers have a lot of choices now when it comes to hiring and they don’t want to hear some silly juvenile voice message on your phone when they call it. If you have a message that is funny or really meant for your friends, you need to change that message to something more adult sounding until you get that job.
Along the same lines, you want to be using an email address that has your name in it and not one that fun or even embarrassing. You need to remember that your email address that you choose reflects on who you are and many employers will go on to the next applicant if you use an email that sounds silly or juvenile.
It is all right to have an email from a free service such as AOL or Yahoo as a lot of adults have them too. However, you shouldn’t have something like “JasonDigsSally(at)Yahoo.com” as that will be something that will immediately turn off any employer. If a manager sees you have used an email like that for a contact, they may just move on to the next applicant who appears to be a more serious worker.
This year of 2010 has been and looks like it will continue to be a hard one to get a job in. You need to keep trying as hard as you can and not give up even though it looks hopeless. You should also be double-checking to make sure you are not making any of the mistakes talked about above that would really torpedo your chances.
