The Benefits Of Kids Playing Sport

I am the father of a superb 9 year old boy. I am keen to provide him with the best start in life and really want him to have a happy childhood. In this article I will be writing about the ways in which participating in sport has helped him to develop his overall character.

When my son first went to school he was some what of a shy child; I was also quite shy and quiet as a child but this was mainly due to the fact that I had a stuttering speech impediment – my son however is able to speak fluently.

I am a person who loves to play and watch a variety of sports and my son has seemingly enjoyed kicking a football around for as long as he has been able to walk. At the age of seven he joined a local football team; at this age they played seven a side. At the outset he was again fairly shy around the other players but he would “come alive” on the pitch and become a kind of natural born leader.

As previously stated he is now nine years of age and has therefore been a member of this team for the last two years. He is now very much at home with all of the other players and instead of being quiet we now find it hard to shut him up. This superbly run football team has helped my beautiful son to gain in confidence, to become a team player and to become a far more rounded person – he has also become a far fitter child.

It is a great thrill to watch my boy play football in the games; unfortunately I am not able to make it to every match as I work for a fostering agency and I am also an SEO specialist on a part-time basis.

During the last two years he has joined a further two clubs, one for cricket and one for table tennis. These associations are again aiding in his social skills and a once shy boy is now a person who is very much self-assured, happy and content. He is also not obese which can not be said for a lot of the children who are at his school.
