Features & Specifications

The EyeClops Mini Projector from toymaker Jakks Pacific is a minature optical projector system that is small enough to take with you wherever you may go. The device is designed to be portable, running on on standard D-cell batteries or can draw power from an AC adaptor plug that allows it to run from the mains. The projector has three composite inputs that allow it to connect to a wide range of devices.

The EyeClops Mini Projector In Use

Perhaps the EyeClops MiniProjector‘s most noteworthy characteristic is it’s size. The thing is very small, which accomodates it’s ability to be portable Portability alone is nice, but is even nicer if you can use the particular media format that is present, say when you’re round at a friends and watch one of his movies. As flexible as it is portable due to it’s audio/video inputs the Jakks EyeClops Mini Projector can accomodate a wide range of modern day devices such as DVD players and video game consoles

With the ability to point the Jakks Mini Projector at any flat surface on any angle, the EyeClops MiniProjector is aimed at kids eight years or older who want to play their favorite video game on a big screen, or to see their favorite movies from the convenience of their room. When I was a kid I know I’d have found it cool to watch TV on the ceiling! The EyeClops Mini-Projector system also features it’s own speakers. These are certainly loud enough to be heard if not home-theater quality.

The big weak point of the Jakks Projector however is it’s brightness. For a good image, all light sources should be fully covered. The device performs quite poorly in daylight conditions. The contrast will be poor and the colors washed out when there is too much external light..

The EyeClops MiniProjector performs much better when the lights get switched off. Sure you’ll never mistake a EyeClops MiniProjector stystem for a fully-blown home theater costing thousands of dollars, but when you consider the device is designed for kids and sells for less than fifty dollars, it would be unreasonable to suggest you are not getting great value at this price.

Some image issues are forgivable when you consider that the Jakks EyeClops Mini Projector has a lot that’s cool about it and is selling at an extremely attractive price. If you go into the purchase, not expecting home theater quality, you will do just fine. Remember it is sold as a child’s toy.

Summary

The Jakks Projector System is great value and not too expensive for a child’s toy. I recently saw it for sale on Amazon for less than fifty dollars and it is still in the Top 10 Christmas Toys 2009 list. Considering the coolness and versitility of this toy it’s definitely a value buy.
