The Meat and Potatoes for a Infant’s Nursery

You need to be ready when your baby is ready to come into your home. To make life easier for moms, and for the safety of a baby, one should prepare the nursery well in advance. To help you prepare, there are a few essentials that you should definitely have in your baby’s room; some of these essentials include furniture and baby bedding.

It is vital to keep the proper furniture in your child’s nursery. Purchasing a quality crib and mattress should be your first priority. If you plan on using a used crib, you must still purchase a brand new mattress, even if one comes with the crib. Before purchasing an older crib, do a full inspection to make sure that it is safe before agreeing to buy it.

Though not a necessity, it is a good idea to have a changing station set up. A changing table gives you a place to change the baby and place the necessary supplies, and it’s thus easily accessible and a good thing to have in the nursery. Buy a good sized dresser for the baby to store all the clothes and outfits. If the space allows, a cozy chair is a nice addition to the nursery and is perfect for late night feedings.

High-quality baby bedding is widely available at many stores, so buy it if at all possible. Crib bedding is usually better to buy online, because online retailers often have more options than physical stores do. When purchasing baby bedding, it is important to keep in mind the safety of your baby, thus any blankets and sheets purchased should fit snugly on the crib mattress to prevent suffocation, and heavy quilts should be avoided completely; pillows in a crib should be avoided. Typically bedding for infants comes with a fitted sheet for the mattress and a loose sheet to cover the baby. Choose bedding fabrics such as cotton that will allow your baby’s skin to breath and are natural and won’t irritate the skin.

In order to have all of the essentials for your baby’s nursery, it would not seem to be complete unless you chose the baby accessories that appealed to you as well as coordinating with your baby room decoration. Unless you have decor in the nursery, it will look too bare; get picture frames and window valances to make it look better. It is critical to have a baby monitor, so you can hear if your baby is up or is crying. It’s also a good idea to get a mobile to hang over the baby’s crib, so that the child will be entertained; many of the available mobiles will play soft music to help the baby sleep. These blankets and sheets tend to get dirty quickly, so be sure to have some extras available.
