Things To Do If Your Son Or Daughter Is Hooked On Oxycontin
A new epidemic in America is hitting the scene with an explosion. The basic chemical compound is nothing new to addicts, but the form it is now available in is. The narcotic oxycontin and its close relative roxycontin are synthetic forms of heroin in pill form. Their recognition is exploding and children are becoming both psychologically and physically addicted to this substance. Regrettably, this endemic is being felt amongst the high school demographic and oxycontin is widely accessible to them at their school and in their group of friends.
Known on the streets as oxy, blues, garbage, junk, skunk and dope, oxycontin has made its presence alarmingly clear in family neighborhoods. It is an opiate, and is essentially synthetic heroin. It comes in a pill form, however swallowing it like medicine is one of the least common methods of using the drug for addicts. The pills are typically snorted, injected, or even smoked when used by an addict.
Oxycontin was considered originally to aid terminally ill people or people suffering from terrible injuries. When ingested traditionally its effects are gradually released into the body helping this ill-fated person deal with their unbelievable pain. When young people abuse roxycontin however, they almost never swallow it. The most widespread method of using the narcotic is by snorting it. The damage this does to the nasal passage is even greater than cocaine. Others smoke it and this can be even more dangerous. The chemicals in the pill produce a very harmful smoke to be ingested into the lungs. This is alot like crack because the high is incredibly powerful and does not last very long. Roxycontin is also shot up with a needle and this is just as worrying. Sharing syringes can result in disease as well.
Being hooked on heroin or oxycontin is a horrible thing to endure. Not only is the user very addicted mentally, but they carry the intense burden of being physically addicted to their drug as well. Kicking opiates, or detoxing as it is often referred to, is absolute despair for the user. They will also have intense cravings while not using, which is why the only real shot they have is in a controlled environment like a teen treatment center. Otherwise the pain of withdrawls and the intense cravings will always made the addict unable to quit.
Often the best solution to this dilemma is a teen intervention where your child will be forced to realize the destruction their addiction has caused those around them. When faced with this realization, often times the teen decides it is time for a change. They come to the conclusion that they are really hurting the only people that love them and most of all hurting themselves.
If your high schooler is bringing teen drug abuse into the home, you are desparate for a solution right away. When this happens you are desparate for to find them a good teen treatment so that they can work toward becoming sober and living a good life again.
