True Blood is a popular dramatic television series which is the brainchild of creator and producer, Alan Ball. The series was derived from the novels by Charlaine Harris, The Southern Vampire Mysteries, a series of books about vampires and humans living together in the fictitious town, Bon Temps in Louisiana.

The original Sookie Stackhouse book, Dead Until Dark, provides the plot for the first season of True Blood. True Blood is entertaining, truly sexy, and at times, uproariously funny, and is best enjoyed in HD. The constant thread running through the heart of the series is the super sexy romance between Stephen Moyer’s, Bill Compton and the all grown up Anna Paquin’s, Sookie Stackhouse who burn up the screen with their chemistry. The series doesn’t focus entirely on the mushy romance, either, there are plenty of entertaining comedic moments, too.

Films such as Underworld and Twilight, in addition to older films such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and movies based on Anne Rice’s vampires, have thrust vampires into the mainstream. The portrayals of vampires by movie stars Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt have made vampires even more popular topics with the movie-going public. However, the big screen is not the only enjoyable format for vampires. They are showing up everywhere on television as well.

The initial season of True Blood tells the story of Dead Until Dark, which is the first novel in the books featuring Sookie Stackhouse. The show can be hilarious, frightening, and sexy, and is best seen in hi-def. Sookie, portrayed by Anna Paquin, who once starred in The Piano but has certainly grown up, and Bill Compton, portrayed by Stephen Moyer, provide viewers with lots of romance and sex between vampires. However, don’t make the mistake that this show is simply about vampire love. It’s very witty and fun as well.

Even though Sookie is a mind reader, she is unable to read Compton’s 173-year-old mind. He fought in the civil war. He talks about contemporary vampires with Sookie, and tells her they are fashion leaders and spend a lot of time on prime time talk shows.
